Deescalating human-lion conflict in the short and long-term

Grantee Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation
Type Human-wildlife Coexistence
Location Kunene, Namibia
Grant Amount $55,000
Duration 1 year

The human- lion conflict is escalating in the Kunene region of Namibia and is an urgent threat to both the region’s farmers and lion’s livelihoods. The Kunene Lion Support Program started mitigating these problems, but it will take years to stabilize the environment for both lions and local residents. IRNDC wants to address the underfunded projects necessary to decrease the conflict between lions and humans through their proposal of boosting their Rapid Response Unit and their Field Facilitators proposing. As a result, IRDNC will have an increased ability to monitor, track, and analyze lions actions.
